Apple has wooed Robin Burrowes to leave his post as XBox Live’s Head of Product Marketing in the EMEA region, in hopes of beefing up its European App Store. Burrowes will be in charge of App Store Marketing for iTunes Europe.*Apple knows that iOS users*love gaming.
That knowledge, coupled with strong iPhone and iPad*sales*may explain Apple’s interest in Burrowes.
During his seven year stint at XBox Live, Burrowes oversaw product, business and marketing management and was responsible for planning, strategy and leadership of Xbox Live across the EMEA region. He has also held positions as*Microsoft’s*MSN online operation as events/B2B marketing manager, Promotions Manager for the British Retailer HMV, and as the Brand Marketing Manager for*Tennent Caledonian Breweries.
Microsoft has also showed an increased interest in iOS as a gaming platform. It’s hard to ignore the popularity of iOS and Android platforms compared to their own Windows Phone. Forbes recently quoted a Microsoft spokesman who said:
“While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.”
In addition, Microsoft recently launched an iOS version of its XBox Kinectimals game, which has proved popular among iPad and iPhone users.
